FILM REVIEW: The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (Ben Stiller, 2013)

Ben Stiller directs and stars in this adaptation of James Thurber’s 1939 short story. The Secret Life of Walter Mitty has been adapted for the screen once before, in 1947, however the current version has made considerable changes. Set in the current day, this contemporary reworking sees Walter Mitty (Stiller) daydreaming of a life less ordinary, while he works in the ‘Negative Assets’ department of Life Magazine. Frozen (Chris Buck & Jennifer Lee, 2013)

I know it’s not always a good idea to give people high expectations BUT… I am not exaggerating when I say: BEST. DISNEY MOVIE. EVER! I was completely spellbound. Based loosely on The Snow Queen, Frozen is the latest Disney animated feature film, featuring two strong female characters. I’m happy to admit I cried. Continue reading FILM REVIEW: Frozen

Melbourne Theatre 2013 in Review

I haven’t seen a musical in over 2 months (*gasp*!) and I’m waiting for Grease tickets to not be a total rip, so for now I will review the year that was 2013 in the theatre world. Again there’s a fair few to get through so apologies for the length. This list mostly consists of professional musicals along with a couple of Broadway-star concerts, a charity event, and a play. My Worst Films of 2013

I generally avoid movies that are clearly going to be shit so this is by no means a list of THE worst films of the year. Rather, these are the films I saw for some reason or another (they got good reviews/ the trailer looked good/ a friend wanted me to go) but my ultimate verdict was: crap. I have included some spoilers here (with spoiler alerts) but these shouldn’t matter because you shouldn’t bother watching any of these films. Continue reading My Worst Films of 2013

Welcome! + My favourite movies of 2013

Welcome! I’m often told I see way too many movies and musicals (although, seriously you guys, seeing Wicked three times in a thirteen month run is NOT that much- others saw it 100+ times). I’ve decided that my passion for film and theatre should be put to some use in the form of a regular blog where I will review those films or productions that I feel like I have something worth writing about. I realise that lumping film and theatre together might seem a bit broad for some (especially those weirdos that “hate musicals” – way to generalise by the way) but film and theatre are related in many ways and I will do whatever I damn well please! I may also add in the occasional television-related post as I’m an avid TV fan also. Continue reading Welcome! + My favourite movies of 2013
